My testing from OmniPage showed that the results depended on the lighting and how flat a page was.
I haven't tested the pdf output since plain text is usually better for my needs.įor the digital camera import I would assume that technology is the same between Omnipage and Paperport and even if it is not, don't expect miracles. Omnipage has the PDF creation feature, but not the document management features you referred to. Omnipage is more expensive, but maybe that's because of the language models and correction features that are needed when more nearly perfect OCR is the goal. I couldn't tell from Nuance's website whether the OCR capability that Paperport uses to make PDFs searchable is the same as that from Omnipage or not.
In that use a mostly accurate OCR wouldn't be too bad. I get the idea though that Paperport doesn't attempt perfect OCR, it just goes for enough OCR accuracy to make it searchable. Omnipage works pretty well, but if you're not familiar with OCR in general, it's certainly not a perfect process. I haven't ever heard of it, however I am familiar with OmniPage, the OCR software from Nuance. I don't know how effective it is, & if it can do hundreds of images at a time.but if it's good, it may be another post-processing alternative.
Also, i'm not sure what std vs pro really is.ītw, i read in the newer version 12, there's a feature where it will process images captured from a camera to process (rotate, crop, OCR) & create pdfs. I don't know if this is an 'always ongoing' sale or not.so I'm debating if I should try it or not. I see that newegg is selling the std for $39 & pro for $89. It's not cheap- the standard normally runs $90-100 and the pro $190-200 roughly. So i'm curious if anyone's heard of it and/or use it or some other form of document manager.I've read either really good or really bad reviews out there.Īs far as i can see, there is no demo/trial to download. I've been accumulating a bunch of pdfs (from diy scans & in addition to others).& I wonder about the value of having a document manager (like an itunes for pdfs).Īpparently Paperport is popular & has many features.however is not free. Anyone heard of or are familiar with Nuance's Paperport?
